Where I’m From

I’m getting older.  I’m thinking more about family, roots, and where we came from.  I’m remembering more and looking back at childhood – mostly fondly.  I’ve always found history engaging (in a let’s read some intriguing and possibly romanticized historical fiction or listening to old family stories kind of way.)  I think family history is intriguing – but never sit long enough to ask the right questions or retain the memory of those conversation enough to recount the stories accurately.  I’ve always been a little introspective, a little retrospective so when I  found an example of this completed poem template while doing some random blogger exploration, it really struck a chord.    (Side note,  see the link at the top that says  “Next Blog >>>”?  Just click it to jump to a new random blog.)

Where I’m From

I am from a swing hanging in my grandparents yard, from Kraft dinner and fresh jam made from plump strawberries we picked ourselves.

I am from the white farm house with too many rooms, the steep staircase, the big back yard, the greenhouses smelling of damp soil and sweet blooms. The home filled with laughter, tears, sibling spats and happy memories.

I am from the wheat fields, the corn fields, the green fields rich with black muck, the stagnant waters of the canal, the willow trees tempting as they sway in the breeze.

I am from loud Thanksgiving dinners with cousins, aunts, and uncles spilling from each room, from endless rounds of broken telephone, from stubborness and quick tempers, from kindness and unconditional love, from Hofstedes and Weenings and finally, Browns.

I am from prayers before meals, from devotions after dinner, and from the bargain hunters always looking for the next good deal.

From bedtime blessings, “May the Lord bless you and keep you”, and from never believing in Santa but always pretending to hear his sleigh.

I am from a family who sees Christianity as a relationship, not a religion. Where faith is a lifestyle. Where your actions should reflect the light of your heart. Where Jesus Christ is redemption, not a swear word.

I’m from “The Marsh”, “The Hill”, The Netherlands, completely Canadian, entirely Dutch. From oliebollen, stamppot, zandkoekjes bakken, a quick hamburger or chicken and rice.

From the first time Opa gave Oma a kiss, skating on a frozen canal in Holland, from my parents’ Friday night wedding in a church hall, my mom in her handmade dress, from the dangers of double-riding your bike without a helmet, cracking heads and lying unconscious waiting for a good samaritan.

I am from puzzles and photos in Oma’s closet, from chalk and treasures in Pake’s basement, from days spent roaming the woods, from rounds of Uno and Rummikub. I’m from strong, hard-working men and efficient housewives raising endless sons and daughters, from a family that has always been close but now lives apart, seen less often but never loved less. From a heritage rich in faith and fortitude, from welcoming hugs and lessons in patience, this is where I’m from and where I’m from is part of me.

The LBD

There’s something special about the little black dress (lbd).  Every girl should have one in her closet that she can pull on and just know she looks good.   Not overly sexy.  Not a bit frumpy.  Just a dress that fits her perfect and makes her feel good.  (Some girls might even have more than one.)  It’s versatile and perfect for so many occasions….

I have so many little black dresses.  They’re wonderful.  Different cuts, different fabrics.  And everytime I pull one on, I feel like I’ve still got it.   Sure I’m curvier.  And, yes, I’m still short.   My hair hasn’t miraculously grown longer or thicker or wavier.  But I feel good.  Throw on some strappy sandals, black pumps or a pair of red heels for a pop of colour.   I feel confident, flirty, feminine.  Some days I even try them on just because I see them hanging there!   Now if only I had more places to wear them – aside from the closet.

Anatomy of A(n Almost) Perfect Weekend

This weekend was one of those weekends that just called for enjoyment instead of productivity.  Here is a breakdown of our not-quite perfect weekend:

1) Make it a long one.   I had Friday off.  Kevin did not so we were all up and ready before 6:45 so we could make use of the car.   I took advantage of having Friday off to do some running around and starting some projects (or mis-starting some projects) and we went out for dinner & ice cream (not on the meal plan -gasp!) after picking up Kevin after work.

2)  Make it fun!  Okay, so my definition of fun and the boys definition of fun greatly differs.  I was quite happy browsing Michaels and looking at paint in Home Depot.  The boys were not.  After dropping off Kevin, we had an early breakfast at McDonalds complete with playtime.  Then mommy did her running around and we stopped by the Farmers’ Market (woohoo fresh Ontario produce!)  We all agree that the Farmers Market is fun but to make up for the errand-running we also stopped by a local splash pad…and then it rained.

3) Make it social.  Saturday we had birthday parties!  We were up early (for a Saturday).  The boys woke up at the crack of stupid (before 6:30 am) and didn’t let us sleep much past 7:30.   We didn’t rush out of the house but we had enough time to spare to take the backroads, stop for some fresh butter tarts & cookies at a local orchard/golf course, stop in for a visit with Oma and head up to Barrie to celebrate our nephews’ (cousins’) birthdays.    Fun times had by all!

Cousins Wrestling –
An Essential Part of Any Good Visit

After enjoying all the necessary birthday party essentials – cake, presents, water play – as well as enjoying all the cuddles with the princess we could get, we did another (yikes!) meal out with the boys.  Then back to Oma’s and hop-skip-across the yard to visit with Pake, Beppe, and many of the extended family for Pake’s 78th (?) birthday.

4)  Make it memorable.  After a busy day in the sun (& rain), take the backroads home.  Oh, but first, let’s keep the doors to the car open and invite in many, many mosquitoes.  Then let’s listen to the boys SOB for 30 minutes about said mosquitoes… and how they will poison them.  Such drama!  If I had a camcorder handy, I would share how delightfully (snort!) amusing that first stretch of the drive home was.   Hehehe… I would save such video if it existed for blackmail purposes when they are older.

5) Make a mistake.    We took advantage of the plan-free Sunday and drove… with no particular destination.  We just headed east.   Then we thought, “Hmmm….maybe we should actually stop somewhere.  Free.  That will be fun for the boys.”   So I suggested we visit the Big Apple (where I have been before and thought was not-so-fun but I saw was tauted online as having lots of fun stuff to do – petting zoo, mini-golf, nature trail – none of which were actually in anyway as described.  Boo!)  After a few minutes at said Big Apple, Kaleb remarks, “I thought you said we were going somewhere fun!”  Smart-a$$!

6) Make a detour.  So after the bust of the Big Apple, we headed west again thinking we’d find a lakefront beach or park to stop along the way home.  We detoured first and stopped at a lilac farm & gift shop.  It had such promise, such potential… but it was not as wonderful as we thought it might be.  I found some yummy baby body wash though.  I love lavender.  Repeat above-mentioned smart-alec comments from Kaleb.

7)  Make it to the beach.   Finally, we made it to Victoria Beach in Cobourg.  The weather was perfectly sunny.  The beach was amazingly busy.  The boys had a blast and mommy’s misrouting is forgiven.  Sun, sand, Lake Ontario, splash pads, playgrounds, pure summer fun!   Sleepy boys, early bedtime, and a lazy, rainy Monday.

I can pump now, Mommy
Look at me!
Oh, no!  It’s “fast” sand.

It’s cold.

Amazing daddy, awesome husband!

Shortcuts

Once, when I was much, much younger (how long ago 15 seems!), my friends and I were walking home from somewhere and decided to take a shortcut… through a field, over a fence, around a reservoir (or maybe just a pond).  We made it through the field no problem but I got stuck on the fence…and ripped my favourite jeans.  By the time we walked around the water and made it to the street again, it probably would have been much faster to just use the sidewalk.

We also experience these snafus trying to navigate around traffic by taking unfamiliar backroads.  Different experience, same result.  You would think I would learn the lesson but sadly, no, I am forever trying to take shortcuts and then I’m left dealing with the frustration and annoyance of a plan gone awry.   The “proper” way is usually the best way.

I recently had this experience creating my “Family Rules” project (woohoo!  It’s done!)

I failed to plan properly and it was one headache after another… and my end result is not nearly as pretty as I had hoped.  If you look closely, my frame is not square…hehe!  And even though spray paint (burnished copper) is my new best friend, we need to work on the fine points of our relationship.  What looked great wet in the sunlight didn’t dry quite as nicely (and the little dust motes that landed in the wet paint didnt’ help either!)   Ah, well.. project finished and I’ve made note of how to perfect my process in the future!

All this shortcut business can have it’s upside, however!  Like when it saves Mommy time cooking dinner.  I try to look for 2-in-1 meals – prep once and have enough leftover to recreate.  Usually, I only have enough leftover for Kevin’s lunch!   Sunday, though, we ate fabulous bruschetta chicken.  I had a package of boneless, skinless thights from Walmart ($5 for 8 thighs).  I brushed them with olive oil, diced some tomatoes, mixed them with a little olive oil, black pepper, basil and garlic and spooned over top of the chicken (I just typed kitchen instead of chicken! Wow – glad I caught that one).  I then sprinkled with some shredded mozzarella and baked – it’s moist, it’s yummy, it went down with minimum of complaints.  I served it with garlic bread, fresh veggies and a salad.  It was hot Sunday and we wanted something simple.

After dinner, I comandeered the leftovers and staked my claim on them (sorry, Kev!) It made for another quick, easy dinner last night.  I reheated and diced the chicken (with bruschetta topping).  I added it to some pesto-tossed rotini topped with grated parmesan (the real stuff – not the powder!) and easy-peasy dinner was served.  The boys loved it!!!  And I loved it because my shortcut actually resulted in less work for once!   What’s your best household shortcut?

Busy Bees

So I’d just like to say that arranging photos in my blog is a big pain in the butt!  Seriously, they’re not going where I want and the formatting options of this entire entry just sucks.  Insert sigh of frustration, groan of impatience and a little foot stomping *here*.   Now on to the post…

I thought with the arrival of summer, things would slow down just a wee little bit!  Apparently, that was just wishful think as it seems we’ve been going full throttle just having fun!   I’ve been doing really well sticking to our meal plan and avoiding the fall back of PizzaPizza or other fast food options (which we usually ended up doing once a week) and most of the new recipes we’ve tried have been HUGE hits.   I’ll share them… but it will have to keep for another day.

Today, I’m going to show off some of the projects I’ve finished lately. Most were done this weekend – Kev took on the task of keeping kids happy and entertained while I stole some alone time locked in the craft room. I have something in the works and need to try my hand at some stuff before I can run full-steam ahead.  Keep your eyes & ears open though – I’m excited for when I can share my news!

Mini Notecard Set

One of the projects I completed were the ribbon wreath inspired by a photo in the Stampin’ Up catalogue that sparked the search for a tutorial – such as the one posted by this talented lady.  For some reason her wreath looks prettier.  Maybe because her ribbon is glossier?  I just feel like mine isn’t quite right.

I also worked on some note cards (blank inside) – some mini sets (3″ x 3″) and a few others (5″ x 5″).  I love the little monkey notes… but again feel like something is missing.    The little monkey ticket holder was a fun project and will be holding some zoo passes for some special little monkeys celebrating their birthdays this month.   It’s a tri-fold card with a pocket in the centre for the passes (tickets, gift cards, etc.  The potential is endless now that I figured out a fun design!)   The front panel says “Monkey See”, flip open and the right panel reads “Monkey Do”, flip again and the center panel with pocket says “Monkeys Going To The Zoo!”

Every craft store, magazine or website I’ve perused recently has been all about Christmas in July – getting a jump on holiday projects so you’re not swamped with craft stuff and feeling overwhelmed come December.  Makes sense to me!  Anyhow, I thought it’s great excuse to create some fun tile coasters and use a few wooden door hangers I picked up at the dollar store. (Honestly, I was going to use both anyhow… and when I picked a paper stack, I was drawn to the Christmas one.  I wasn’t actually thinking “Christmas in July”.)  Both projects turned out lovely… but I wanted to test out my coasters to see if they’re giftable.  And I don’t actually want to be using Christmas coasters in the middle of the summer so today I whipped up another more-generic all-season set.  (I have yet to seal them – so no pictures yet!)

It’s my goal to get a few more projects done here and there – if I can get them done now, it gives me some always-appreciated alone time and means I’m creating some from the heart gifts without the stress I usually encounter because I don’t implement timelines so well!  What’s on your holiday to-make list?  What’s on your holiday handcrafted wishlist?

PS – I’m addicted to Pinterest.  So many great ideas without weeding through a ton of google results.

The Elusive Free Weekend

I calculated to day that on average, I work 50 hours a week (without breaks – getting to the bathroom without hearing a little voice call my name is a wonder!)   I’m not complaining as the decision to provide home daycare has, when everyone is happy and occupied,  left me with flexibility to tackle little things around the house (or catch a chapter or two in my current read, waste time online, solve a crossword on my iPhone) but it means by the time my own kids go to bed (14 hours after rising!), I’m exhausted and my house is trashed!   (I don’t know how teachers survive their days… I’m surrounded with maybe a third of the number of kids they are at my busiest time of day and it’s enough to pull my hair out – if the baby hasn’t already done it for me!)

Which is why I love my all-too-rare girls nights with friends (even if it’s just grabbing a smoothie at Dairy Queen), uninterrupted downtime with my Kobo, sleeping in and the elusive ‘free weekend’.   I know, I know.  You’re thinking: “What?  A free weekend?  They’re a myth.”  Alas, my friend, they are not a myth.  They do truly exist, they just rarely occur.   Now I’m about to make you jealous:  we have one of these rare and precious weekends in our grasp… and of course I’ve got a to-do list a mile long which I suppose means it’s not such a ‘free’ weekend as it’s just a weekend with no travel or scheduled activities.

Here is what I WANT to do this weekend:

  • Take a trip to Home Depot (I love trips to HD but I’m specifically trying to kick Kev’s bum into gear as he said he would finish the fireplace as my anniversary present.  I’m also on the hunt for magnetic/chalkboard paint which I *think* I saw there once upon a time and I’m told is available in a spray can for easy peasy crafting! I’m also on the hunt for coaster-sized tiles – maybe a slightly damaged box so I can get them cheap!)

White Window Wall Frame, Pier1 Imports

  • Take a trip to Pier1 to pick up a picture frame I fell in love with but intended on making myself.  However, when I was browsing the Pier1 website the other day I noticed it’s been marked down and I can now justify buying rather than making it! (Although I just realised I saw the US sale price -way better than the Canadian sale price -boo!)
  • Hit a garden centre or a local nursery/greenhouse to pick out herbs, rhubarb (if it’s still available) annuals, succulents, soil and grass seed.  I might make two stops – one being Loblaws or the RCSS because I love the PC gigantico herbs!
  • Plant 2 hanging baskets, 3 urns, a succulent centrepiece similar to this (for indoor or out), and my herb box (basil, lavender, chives…)
  • Create Kaleb’s teacher gift for Mrs. Mac.  I showed him some ideas on Pinterest and he selected the monogram crayon art.   We have to buy a frame or shadowbox and some crayons.  Mommy was leaning towards a gerbera in a nice basket with a cute tag (less work!) but fun won hands-down.
  • Weed my perennial bed in the back.
  • Weed & edge my front garden.
  • Create a website to showcase some of my crafty successes.  Hoping to create some custom orders.
  • Make some tile coasters.   Found the idea on Pinterest.   Followed the link to see the tutorial.  Love the idea!
  • Visit the Farmer’s Market.  Need fresh produce – specifically strawberries & rhubarb.   Maybe we should do pick-your-own instead.   Hmmmm…
  • Take the boys to see Cars 2.   I love Mater.  Most of the kids movies I’m rather indifferent about but this one I. Must. See.
  • Go yard saling!  (that word doesn’t look right!)  I’m searching for paintables & repurposeables (yes, I made that one up).  Frames, furniture, jars, vases, etc.  I’m also looking for girl toys.  Apparently 4 – 6 year old girls get tired of superheroes and Lego.  I’m also peeking around for a mini-trampoline.

In addition to the wants, here is what I MUST do this weekend:

  • Laundry – my ever-present, never-ending nemesis.  I’m good with the washing and drying. I don’t believe in folding.
  • Create a meal plan.  This one will include a strawberry supper – because strawberries are in season and strawberries rock.
  • Clean the floors.
  • Clean the bathrooms.
  • Mow the lawn.  (This will most likely be pawned off on Kevin)
  • Reorganize the craft room.  Again.  Because I don’t use this room on a daily basis, it seems to be a dropping ground for the-stuff-that-has-no-home.  The doors stay closed to this room regularly.  It scares me.
  • Grocery Shop for above mentioned to-be-created meal plan.

I won’t even include the things that I *SHOULD* do.  I figure with such long “want” & “must” lists, I’ve probably already over-budgeted my time – especially as I haven’t included any free time for this free weekend and I know there’s more I *have* to do – it’s just escaping me now!

Of Men & Monkeys

This time of June I always have a lot of men to think about.   Father’s Day was celebrated, as was our anniversary.    This means trying to find heartfelt and meaningful gifts for dads x3 and something to mark our anniversary without spending a fortune, all while hoping they’re actually appreciated by the recipient(s).   Why does it seem that this is sooooo much easier to do for women?

Our week seemed to be crazy busy as usual and days didn’t go as planned – neither did my gift projects with the boys so we spent a lot of time Friday night trying to complete some last minute (but not unplanned) crafting.   The boys decorated a t-shirt (lots of messy fabric paint!) for Papa featuring their hand prints.  They took special pride in creating cards for Papa & Daddy using my scrapbook supplies – they love picking out the elements and helping to design the layout and even deciding which adhesive to use.  (FYI, the Xyron sticker-maker is their personal favourite, followed closely by foam dots to make things ‘pop-up’.)   We picked up a paper pad (which included matching stickers and elements) by Momenta/ATD called “Family Outings” that seems to be very boy-friendly and they’ve been selecting it for every recent card making venture.  Momenta also has tons of downloads & ideas if you’re feeling ‘stuck’.  Anyhow, I bought the pad for a couple specific scrapbook pages I wanted to do but as it seems to be so popular, I might have to pick up another.

I told my mom the other day that in his old age (ahahaha!) my dad is becoming sentinmental so I found inspiration on Etsy and created a subway-art inspired picture frame.  I bought a budget frame from Zellers (less than $10), painted it white and then sanded it to add some distressing.  I begged Kevin to mirror-print the sentiment on white-backed vinyl (he got smart and brought me home off-cuts so I can use my Cricut to cut my own!)  We applied this to the inside of the glass. I then spent way too much time trying to take a good picture of the boys – Justin with his cheesy grin and Kaleb in tears because he apparently doesn’t “know how to smile nice anymore”.  (*Sigh*  Everything is complicated with my two little monkeys!)  We captured a winner and printed an 8″x10″ sepia-toned copy using our photo printer  All assembled, an easy but priceless gift for less than $10!

Grandpa didn’t get a homemade gift or homemade card (Grandma bought him tools and asked us to all contribute) but he still got hugs and kisses.  Sunday we spent the day at their cottage and the boys made plans to spend some time with Grandma by the lake this summer.  The weather was amazing and the boys went fishing & swimming.  I’m glad they’re getting bigger and more confident in the water – mommy was all set to go in with them but brr, Sturgeon Lake is chilly and they were comfortable with their life jackets if they didn’t go past the dock.

Daddy didn’t get a homemade gift either besides Kaleb’s school creations.  He was showered in love and cuddles in bed and the boys did pick out little things to show how important he is.

Monday we celebrated our anniversary (with a meal at home – yummy maple-grilled pork chops & granny smith apples, maple balsamic mixed green salad with mandarins & almonds, rosemary french bread – yum!)  It was a day just like every other but I tried to make it a little special.  Kevin said “no gifts!  We just went to California… ”  But I can’t not do a gift of some sort for someone I love so dearly.  Creativity was a little slow in coming but I tried and this is what he received:

* a handmade card with a beer mug (made with my Cricut) and a ‘label’ designed using templates from FreeBeerLabels.com
* a verse I wrote for the inside of the card trying to corelate the card to the gift to our anniversary – not my best work but it did the job:

Grab a bottle, raise a glass
We make a winning team
Think back with affection &
Remember all we’ve seen.

We’ve been to many places.
We’ve traveled near and far.
My favourite destination
Is anywhere you are.

Your love’s intoxicating,
More than the finest brew.
We’ve made it this far, baby!
So cheers to me & you!

* and the gift itself – a variety of beer from some of the destinations we’ve visited together (Red Stripe for Jamaica, Muskoka Cream Ale to represent some local holidays, Corona for Mexico.)  I didn’t come up with this idea until it was too late to try and source beer from some of the other locales we’ve been… but hey, it’s the thought that counts!  After a busy weekend, 7 years of marriage to me (I’m not an easy person to live with!) and life with two rambunctious boys, a beer after a long day at work is appreciated, I’m sure.

After our crazy weekend (& Monday) of celebrations, I’ve been giving more thought to doing one of the local Christmas craft fairs and maybe creating a website featuring some of the stuff I’ve made.  Think it would be worth my while?  And suggestions on what to call my venture so I can keep my personal entity sepearate?   No I don’t mean I need a pseudonym… but a ‘company’ name to throw on business cards.   I’m open to suggestions… and if you have any old wood frames you want to get rid of, please let me know!

Here’s a quick anecdote from Kaleb, the monkey with the funny mouth!   We’re in the car on the way to the cottage and I don’t remember what we were talking about – they were arguing or he was uncomfortable or we had a change in plans.  Regardless, while he’s complaining about whatever it is, I threw out our standard “Well, that’s life, Kaleb.  Get over it.”  To which he replies, “No, that’s pain”.   Maybe you had to be there, but he had us chuckliing.

It’s Just So (P)Interesting!

I’ll ‘fess right up and admit, I’m addicted.   The first time my mom referred me to Pinterest, I didn’t get it.  It was busy and confusing and who has the time for another distraction?  I must have been having a bad day!   My cousin commented (maybe on one of my previous posts?) that I would love Pinterest and should check it out.   So I did!

Well, my days have a bit more routine (until school ends next week and we start all over) and I’m finding a little more time for me while still managing to keep kids safe & entertained.  I also (unfortunately) realised there is a Pinterest iPhone app – which is just so convenient – and now I’m addicted!  In the less than 2 weeks since I’ve joined, I have 11 boards & 66 pins with more being added daily.

Quick Screenshot of My Pinterest Account

It’s such a convenient place to track all the unique and interesting things I find as I journey through cyberspace.  I can keep picture references, links, and more all organized in one quick click and share my finds with others.    This of course means I can also browse other people’s unique finds and add them to my boards.   It’s like a big virtual bulletin board system – a place to create dreams, find inspiration, share ideas and more!  I love it!!!   If you want, follow me:  www.pinterest.com/lbrown81.     If you’re not already a member, you’ll need an invitation to join (which you can get right at the site or let me know your contact info and I’ll send you an invite.)

It’s just so interesting & I can’t seem to get enough!

Grilled Peach Crisp

I think I found this recipe in one of the grocery store complimentary magazines a few years ago.  It’s become a family summer fave!

Grilled Peach Crisp

4 large ripe peaches
1 tsp pure olive oil
1/2 cup quick oats
1/4 cup melted butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup caramel pecan frozen yogurt or french vanilla ice cream

Preheat BBQ to medium high and clean grill well.
Combine oats, butter and brown sugar.

Halve peaches, remove pit.  Brush fleshy side with oil.  Place cut side down on grill and cook until lightly marked, about 2 minutes.

Top peaches with oat mixture.   Place back on grill, close lid and cook until peaches are tender and topping is golden, about 8 minutes. Serve with a scoop of frozen yogurt and garnish with a drizzle of chocolate sauce (raspberry chocolate is yum!)

Family Rules

Apparently, “Subway Art” is the big thing in home decor and people are loving vinyl wall appliques.  You would think, lucky for me, I have a hubby who just happens to have a print shop with acess to, gasp!, a large digital printer and vinyl, banners, canvas, etc.  Too bad I have to make a decision and pinpoint exactly what I want.   (Many moons ago, I did get him to print the vinyl wall applique for the boys room… it looks cute!  And he did the canvas monkey prints for me… so I’m not always indecisive and I do manage to create some decor on a budget.)

I stumbled across the “Family Rules” idea at Walmart one night.  I actually took a picture with my handy-dandy iPhone and asked for it for Mother’s Day thinking maybe this would inspire above mentioned hubby to print one up at work.  He didn’t.   Soooooo I’ve been thinking that I should design my own.

Design Divas Gallery, Etsy Seller

There are a ton of ideas on Etsy.  Here is one from a seller in BC using vinyl wall appliques.  It’s fun. It’s big. It would look fantastic on the large empty wall in my kitchen. Unfortunately, part of me thinks it will look ‘raw’ or ‘unfinished’. And then while I was catching up on blogs I failed to read while on vacation, I saw a guest post and picture that I fell in love with! (The guest blogger has her own blog, SassySanctuary – I’m adding her to my reading list.)

Lantern Project featured on CraftGoodies

The actual post was about the lantern (cute) but I think the subway art family rules IN A FRAME is adorable!  I have decided I want a giant whitewashed frame surrounding my family rules.  (Buy new, thrift or make?) I think it will look great on that blue wall!

Should I get him to print it on canvas, poster paper or vinyl stickies that I can apply to a background (or the wall) and frame around it?   And what should our family rules be?  Trying to remember the things we constantly say is harder than it sounds!
